As a software engineer, how can you not have a good pair of headphones while coding? So, here is an unboxing post—completely unrelated to technology—of the Stax SR-009BK (limited to 180 units) and the SRM-727A electrostatic headphone amplifier.

Introduction
During the pandemic, stuck at home and bored, I found myself browsing various online shopping sites. I eventually stumbled upon Fujiya-Avic, and my hands started itching again. I saw that they actually had the 009BK, and it was even a bit cheaper than the standard 009... Ever since I heard the D8000 Pro, I've been thinking about upgrading my headphones. Before I knew it, I accidentally 'slipped' and swiped my card for both the headphones and a refurbished SRM-727A.
Unboxing
So yesterday, right in the middle of a Zoom meeting at home, the doorbell suddenly rang.
I quickly told my colleagues I had a package and ran to sign for it.
The courier delivered a large box whose contents I already knew.

Without further ado, I rushed to unbox it as soon as the meeting ended.
009BK Outer Box:

Inside the box is a wooden case. It's surprisingly light when picked up, but it looks very high-quality.

Opening the case and removing the foam padding reveals the 009BK itself.

I got number 178 out of the limited 180 units.

The appearance is very premium—it's like a piece of craftsmanship.

The outer box for the 727A is relatively simple—just a standard cardboard box. The unit is right there once you open it.

Plugged it in and started listening immediately.

My music taste is quite eclectic, mostly J-POP and English oldies, so I just picked a few tracks I listen to often for comparison.
My previous pair of headphones was the Hifiman HE560; switching to the 009 + 727A setup is basically a comprehensive upgrade across the board.
At first, they sounded a bit flat and bland, but after listening closely, I realized the detail and transparency of the 009 far exceed the HE560. Personally, I even think they outperform my memory of the D8000 Pro.
It's most noticeable with guitar sounds; the sound from the initial pluck to the decay is incredibly lifelike.
As for the fit, although they're slightly heavier than the HE560, I barely notice them. They're very comfortable, and I ended up listening all night without realizing it. I feel they're worth every penny; it was money well spent.
I was also very impressed after hearing the D8000 Pro, but I ultimately chose the 009 for its detail and transparency. Plus, since electrostatic amplifiers are different from standard ones, it helps curb my urge to upgrade. For now, I'll consider this setup my 'endgame'—as for what's next... I'll wait until I've saved up enough money.
Finally, let me give a little nudge to anyone considering electrostatic headphones.
With the prices of flagship over-ear headphones skyrocketing lately, electrostatic headphones aren't as unattainable as they used to be. Stax also offers entry-level models, so anyone interested should give them a listen. The biggest challenge right now is probably finding a place to demo them.
Conclusion
According to studies from the University of Windsor in Canada,Scientific Researchlistening to music while coding can improve efficiency. So, fellow engineers, shouldn't you also get a nice pair of headphones to boost your coding productivity?
